Lockdown Soap Bubbles Studies is a collection of works born out of the 2020 pandemic, and part of the wider Soap Bubbles Studies photography series which depicts soap bubbles floating in front of uninhabited natural landscapes. In place of the natural settings characteristics of the original images, Plank uses a photography backdrop of kitsch landscapes set up in her own backyard.
Started as a direct response to the travel restrictions imposed by Covid-19, the backdrop element of Lockdown offers a humorous twist on the impersonal photos of palm trees and idyllic beaches, for instance prevalent as floor-to-ceiling wallpaper in the 70s and 80s. The resulting photographs don’t disguise the use of a backdrop; the highly saturated colours hint at an artificial perfection, while the creases from the stretched out backdrop are kept visible in the final image.
In Lockdown Soap Bubbles Studies, Plank plays with the juxtaposition of a fleeting soap bubble, reminiscent of childhood and about to burst at any second, with an intemporal background that remains forever unchanged and perfect. The contrast between the floating suds and the immobile palm fronds invites contemplation and hints at a fragile transience — perhaps a commentary on the 2020 global experience of keeping things on hold, or an echo of the impermanence of life on earth.

This heavyweight paper has a slightly warm base tone and a strong mottled texture. It creates a print with strong colours and deep blacks that feel rich and high in contrast. This is due to the texture of the paper enabling it to hold more ink and capture the light. The German Etching is one of our heavier weight Giclée art printing papers. With its weight and strong texture this paper gives an artwork a handmade crafted feel.

damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that I can evaluate the issue and make it right. In case of damage or loss through the delivery provider, I will replace your order immedeately .

I am based in Austria (or nearby) Is it possible to direct order?
- Absolutely, and I advise you to do that. There are also more possibilities to frame the work. Shipping will be a little faster as well.
I would like to have my print framed in a different way then available, is this possible?
- Yes it sure is. If you live in Vienna I can assist you and have the print delivered in the frame of your choice.
For other countries it is easy and best to contact your local framer who
will frame your print beautifully according to your wishes. Of course I
can assist you in choosing what frame would be the most beautiful option for your print.
I have difficulty choosing which print would look best in my space, what can I do?
- I am here to help you, we can plan a meeting online to go over all different
options. I can advise you on what work would look the most stunning in
your space.
